Firstly...I cannot even find words to say or say why I feel that this is wrong and disrespectful and soooo not cool to one of the Best Biggest Rock Bands Legend who we were blessed to have heard, shared and loved them and their great unique rock songs and memory of their lead singer the Beautiful Magical Man Freddy Mercury... as I am sooo shocked and sad:((

Also...I feel that over the years to me it has....The true spirit and magic for me has and is fading away sadly:(....because it use to be a musical journey of spirit of Rock and what is called Indie...Music that fed and wrapped around you feeding your soul and spirit with it words and vibrations and made you flyyyy and bounce bounce..but now over the years more R&B and Pop has wormed it way in I feel.....Even this man above who by all accounts is quite mean and greedy just to me totally disrespects the great Freddy Mercury and this Powerful Classic Rock song by turning it into some Gangster Style version and this man Clearly "Cannot Sing" :(( and yet the Crowds Roar, Cheer This on :((

Strange how it is though that this man above had this years Organisers in a Twist as he shouted out over the Airwaves and Social Chat places Publically last year that Glastonbury is (Not Glastonbury) anymore....So this year the Organsers paid huge amounts of money for more top Rock and Indie because of this man comments???..because yes Glastonbury was and Is loosing its spirit and life of what Glastonbury was and truly is about .. .And yet still this man after that completely "Trashes" the beautiful memory of Freddy Mercury and one of the best Rock songs and Rock Bands of All Ages...Which Freddy and Queen Magically gifted us with his Amazing Voice and Amazing Band .:(

So for me ...if this is what also is going to keep on happening at Glasto well Sadly its Spirit will be lost all the time people can cheer and clap and love what i have shown above!! well something is "Sooo Not Cool" and what Glasto holds in the future.

Yes ...there were some amazing rock and indie Bands too ...but Not Enough!! And this man Kanye West was a "Glasto Main High Headliner Top Attraction Big Event to have him there" !! Hmmm? ..Really?? Nope does not Flyyy with me!!

So lets get good old Glastonbury Back and Living And Flowing Again:))
Well that is what I think and I would be very interested to see or hear from you all or anybody ..to see if it is just me? who thinks and feels this? ..Or just simply share your thoughts about "Glastonbury" ....Thanks :))

  • I've never been to Glastonbury (well I have, but not to the festival which isn't in Glastonbury anyway) and don't really fancy the idea. My friends tell me I should try it at least once, but big events make me uncomfortable. The image I have received of the festival is that it is big, it is corporate. I am not tempted.

I'm afraid I am neither a big fan of Queen nor of Kanye West, although there is clearly a lot of merit in the music of the former. I don't know enough about the latter to comment except that if this is an example of his work the man is either past his sell-by date or a complete fraud. I wonder whose idea was it that he "sing" Bohemian Rhapsody. It sounds like someone put it in his contract and he didn't want to do it. The people singing karaoke in our local pub make a more convincing job of the vocals and they don't chicken out of singing the high notes like he does. Got to agree with you Danann. As horrible covers go, this is up, or down, there with the horriblest. :snub:

  • never been to glasto, and if that's the sort of rubbish they going to let on stage, then I guess I never will, so I totally agree with Bungo, Marshlander and Danann. Glad I didn't have to listen to the whole song

  • Yeah, how do you define spirit. That zeitgeist of 'something'. i know when i am there in nature or in the closeness of touch, but within a group people i find that to be in spirit is harder to find, but yes, at Glastonbury 2000 sometime during David Bowie on central stage, just as the evening was starting to drift between the smoke of the fires, i got that vibe.

  • +1 with Bungo and Marshlander, though I do have a soft spot for early Queen.

I find everything about Kanye West to be tedious in the extreme.

I would like to go to Glastonbury though one day, 400 quid with parking means I probably never will.

Yeah, I like the Queen stuff as well Languid Virago, as for Kanye West..HA...Kayne who ? how all those people thought that was good, i'll never know ? ... and 400 quid..well I guess that rules me out.

  • The Glastonbury Experience is - for me - a Spiritual one
The Musical Festival connected to it has become more of a commercial venture - of which has lost it's *Magic*
Freedom of expression and mutual indulgence of Love, Peace, Unity and Joy
Replaced with those whose emphasis more on the promotion of themselves
    - I suppose with age comes melancholy reflection (?)

  • Well I am glad and happy that I am not the only one who feels like this :)) ....And thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me too:))

I totally agree too that is more about Promoting now than the Real Vibrations of Music and Love and Freedom to Express.....I too do not like Crowds of people but learned how to tune out my mind of people and just feel the music and dance using the earths vibration feeling and touching the sound...But it was less crowded when I last went many years past on a rare occassion i was allowed to be free for a short time but off Course never alone....and not the amount of money whst it is now ....I would never pay that amount of money for what Glasto is about now...the music and people vibrations have changed...free spirits seem to have turned into groupie minions, of the performing bands and singers groups etc:(

There is no connection ..no spirit ..with love..peace.happiness, .sharing and flyyyying it is more about "snap shotting and tweeting " (Hey I am at Glasto") ...so it is more about the (Fashionable hip groovey place to be)...rather than the spirit of the music, the words that flow that vibrates through the people..earth..lands connecting and joining us all as one in heart and spirit...
It is more like "V Festival and Party In The Park" which I never go too hahaha...And it has Nothing to do with Age or Getting Older as Age is just a number not who and what we are....No it is about The Spirit/Magic of Glasto and Its Unique Cool Music and Freedom to Flyyyy" a Treasure of Vibrations and Sound..Which has now be "Wrapped in Sparkles, Packaged, Promoted.Commercialised" in other words "Tainted and Poisened" by the Greed of Mans World and the Real Glasto has faded to just "A Mist" of what "Once Was There".:(

  • Yes Paul it was seen as a place "Not to be Seen" rather than now a place "To be seen" hahaha ...It was labelled and spoke of that Glasto people were "Stoned crazies and dirty people who smell and do not wash even as far as "Devil Worshipers And Hippies" hahahaha ...People would NOT be defo not be Snapping Pics and Texts then..But then the Mobile Phone and Wireless Internet Airwaves were not the End Of The Eorld if you did not have it !!! Hahahahaha:))....And it is a very good thing you speak about in your words Paul as it was very true :))

  • The thing that in a way makes me sad is that I think in my mind and heart that
"What will be Next"?? ..what will we Spiritually loose to Sparkles and Greed and Minions" ....

I truly believe that if it was not true that some people in a way "Fear Stonehenge" as they feel the Ancient Power and the Power of the Ancients" and do not understand as they meaning mans world fear the unknown ...So at least it will ALWAYS Be Safe ..and Loved And Protected and By Its People ..From People Like Kanye West Performing at a Musical Festival Within the Beautiful Ancient Blessed Stones And from the Greed and Poison of Mans World.:))...

Just even thinking that hurts my heart..mind..body and spirit...and I bless the Goddesses and Sisters Of Fate and The Powers That Be and The Power Of The Ancients that ..."Stonehenge Will Forever Be Pure..Powerful..Beautiful And Free And Untouched/Tainted By Mans World :))

  • I remember back in the early 80s we used to take the piss out of people who went to Glastonbury - I mean, not seriously or anything, just banter, but it always had a reputation for being too commercial, even back then.

That's true, I remember some folk leaving henge to go on pilgrimage to Glastonbury. We all thought "how mad they were" to pay for music, festival, event. Glastonbury had its hard core of followers for so many reasons. I've traded there 3 or 4 times and seen it as a punter twice. I can still get off on parts of the festival. Each to their own and if you have known no alternative, your going to think you have arrived still.

You see spirit, sense spirit, touch spirit. There will always be places and people that invoke that for you. Yes, 'they' will eventually take over everything, that can make them money. Plasticoate it, earth out that vibe, a ticket for this and a selfie for that, but you never need to go far. Last week i had to have my car repaired and i needed to take it to a garage in an industrial estate in the middle of nowhere for a minimum of 4 hours. I got a map of the area and planned out a walk where i could sense that the lanes and routes of spirit would be. It was a magical fours hours as i explored little and ancient routes, touched old gnarled trees found hidden pools and lakes and then ,while walking through a field, i found some amazing crystals, first one and then two three almost hundreds. i took just a few and left some and brought them home. And the people i passed, some were blank faced plugged into running via ipod, but others would look up and smile, sharing the joy.:)

  • I have never been to Glastonbury festival and I doubt I ever will but from I understand the pyramid stage is only a small part of the festival as a whole and it is that small part that the media concentrates on.

There are many types of music and countless other things going on there I would imagine I could probably go there and listen to nothing but jazz for the whole time.

I am going to see zydeco band called Billy Lee and the swamp critters at my local on thursday. They are over from america to play Glastonbury and are doing a few local gigs whilst they are over here.

I think there is probably something for everyone at the festival if you like crowds and are willing to pay a small fortune to get in.

  • Yes...it be true, Me ..you everybody does not have to go far to have that, because ..Spirit..Magic and Beautiful Symbols and Signs are all around us everywhere we go...and yes...i see spirit it...I reach out and feel it..hear it..touch it...taste it.and scent it ...and feel their beautiful vibrations Just...as they see me..feel me..touch me, scent me ..hear me ..and know my vibration .because I do not see, feel, touch, taste, scent..hear etc through the eyes of man and my heart body and spirit and vibration is not of mans world because I have not lost the gifts we are given at birth/awakening ...I use all my gifts Taste..smell...sight..scents..hearing..touch etc and my mind and spirit is not closed by mans world and beliefs..

Just like you I explore...seek...learn everyday new things ..wherever my footsteps and tippy toes may be......For me and I ...we do not walk this earth with our birth/awakening gifts of senses closed...lost..forgotten...Every new born day is different...new things to see and learn ...for I and me do not just simply walk this earth and lands with closed eyes and minds
We explore..learn..seek...touch..taste..smell..hear and dance and flyyy and bounce and dance with spirit and their vibrations ..seeing and sensing the beautiful symbols and signs all around carried like the blow wishers dancing and flyyyying on an invisible thread of our sacred symbols and signs...just as me and I see all...everthing...and everyone as beautiful symbols and signs which is the way of me and I and our Spirit of the Sacred Ancients :))

That is Why...to me Music and Dance is more than just that....I and me ..see the music notes raise and flyyyy and dance within the skies ..the music floods our lifes acient bloods awakening inside and lift our spirits and hearts so we dance..bounce and flyyyy on their vibration of the Spirit Hidden with the Music and Words and Beats for me and I it is a secret beautiful peaceful speak tongue/language pure light and bright more powerful as it is carried on the beautiful energy of all peoples love..laughter..peace and happiness gathered all around living and loving the musical sounds from the playing bands and singers:))

So for me Glasto nearly loosing its spirit of the music is a sad thing becaise this was and is a place full of beautiful musical symbols and signs ..and a place of pure light peace and happiness burning wild and free like a dancing spiritual flame of fire flickering and glowing ....but now the dancing flame is no longer dancing and the hardly flickering and not glowing....So that is why i feel sad in a way that mans greed and need to blow out any pure bright dancing spiritual flame and the place from where it came forth .....if that makes all sense hahaha:))

  • Your pictures and words of the crystals and new things you found and places and the smiles within and around the place you found and explored and its pictures memory was beautiful to read and see as your happiness and enjoyment can be seen and felt within them :) and your thought are very true sadly too ...things sadly will be lost to Man:((....because any vibrating place of music and dance and peace and love that was powerful is still hurt ...even though yes its all around amd surrounds us....Yes i will still bounce and flyyy hahaha but a single silver invisible tear will release leaving a shimmering silver hidden symbol and sign upon my cheek of what once this place was to me, as I bounce and dance and flyyy as my footsteps and tippy toes me and I explore ..seek and learn each new born day of and in mans world:))

  • The corporate events industry has ruined most popular events large and small, from big music festivals to more local folk gatherings, agricultrural shows or country fairs. Glasto has simply fallen victim to its own success like most other similar big events and jumped into bed with big media TV and radio who tend to call the shots for their own agenda and thats a real shame.

Event costs everywhere have spiralled with the requirements for adequate policing, fire cover, medical cover, insurance,H&S risk assessments but the primary issue is the outright profiteering of events companies and the corporate traders who are bound up in them, not as supporters and subsidisers but parasitic opportunists.

Maybe Im just old school but in the past, social or music gatherings just happened spontaneously year to year with little authoritarian organisation, more chaotic muddle along style and the atmosphere was always free n easy and memorable.People came away feeling theyd had a real good time, mostly dirt cheap, much of it paid for or subsidised by local businesses. Not feeling robbed for beer, food, toilets, parking or whatever else the organisers can screw out of attendees these days.

Im sure Glasto has its memories for whoever goes but its obviously going to be different set of memories for each generation that goes because its been around for so long. So maybe its more complicated than just to say its not the same as it was.It appeals to a modern younger generation with a wide range of likes and maybe thats the issue for those who went years ago who went for specific kinds of music and the unique atmosphere. If the newer generation want to be ripped off and exploited more than happened occasionally in my day then really thats their business, more fool them. Its always had its detractors and its always been regarded with derision too, for its musical lineup or simply for the infamous mud and shitty toilets. On the whole though people have enjoyed it year to year.

I agree its majorly disappointing to see 'artists' like Kanye there but I suppose the organisers are forced by their own success to have to cater for a wider audience and more commercial pop 'talent'.Im glad im not shelling out £400 I dont have for the 'privilege'.Might not be the same as being there in person but thank goodness for TV and recorders so I can take in the highlights and skip through the crud.I'll stick to the more low key impromptu folk indie events I think.

  • For me, it's definatley lost it's magic and spirit...
It's always been a massive part of the summer in somerset... we all know it as Pilton Pop Festival... I went in 1994, 95, 97 and 2002... the three in the 90's were fucking AWESOME, the one in 2002 was weird... less people, less edgeyness, less randomness, much more corporate bollocks... that was the year i decided i was done with Pilton...

The magic and spirit for me as a local was always about the mental schemes running around my peer group... how to get in over the fence, how to get in under the fence, who to blag lifts in and out with, how to make money whilst there, where still had tickets for sale locally etc... The magic of making your way on site and pitching up in the dark to find half of your old school mates all around you the following morning :D lol yeah very very fond memories of my times spent at the festival but I wouldn't go back as a punter or even to work these days... it would be a miserable experience for me... i would spend my entire time shouting abuse at lazy little cunts who can't be bothered to be clean and tidy ;) Everyone buzy looking at their phones for fucks sakes.... nah...

And as for Sweaty Ken .... just what were they thinking?!

For me the biggest change has been to see the change in the vehicles heading too and from site... was a time when it was the ropiest looking cars, vans, trucks and big traveller rigs ... these days they are defo in the minority amongst all the bloody audi's and bmw's and really shiny motors... added to that the big boom in "glamping" facilities... the clientelle has definatley changed... or maybe just grown up and got well paid jobs ?

  • and don't even get me started on the town of Glastonbury... ugh ... there are some deeply deeply fucked up people swanning it around, making a fuck lot of money from unsuspecting people searching for something... I loved glastonbury most in the early 90's when there was a whole lot less bullshit around town xxx

Too funny ... I remember we used to wave lighters about and watch the stage, now as you say seems everyone watches through their mobile, or being irritating selfie narcissists taking pics.

And def a change in clientelle,...the new rich are taking over..another reason I wouldnt bother going now.

  • Perhaps whats happened at/to Glasto is a symptom of what happens today in most areas of cheap or niche entertainment or sports...kids with fuck all used to gather in beat up vans and cars and go surfing or make up bikes to go mountain biking or skateboarding, hang out in warehouses and dance to anything not manufactured and mainstream.

Now almost everything 'fringe' is found by scouts, adapted and peddled for big bucks by big corporate interests and the average kid with no money swamped out of his/her own sport or interest by rich kids with big sponsors unless he/she can get a following on the 'tube' and get on to the bandwagon.

Atmosphere and magic was never -for me at least -something that could be paid for or manufactured...

  • Dear god in heaven - is that video real? I've never heard of Kayne West and after that I don't want to be hearing any more. And that was a headline act? Sheesh, I'm glad I'm getting old.

I've been three times working for Oxfam. If you really want to go LV then consider working your way. You have to pay for your ticket but they pay you back. You get to see the place before and after and it makes for an interesting experience.

The last time I went was in 2005 and that was it for me. I spent most of my time up in the green fields and the healing fields but that last time wasn't a happy experience for me. Police stopping and searching, getting searched on the way in and out (the Oxfam field was off site) and the whole thing feeling like one massive money making scheme.

  • yep, they rebelled! That and stuff became cheaper to buy than to cobble together. Low interest rates mean that everything has a yield to it, the eu, health and safety and, and... It is the way that it is and the hippy mantra of 'experience and know' has gone all virtual. Like 'document and assume' experience self as a youtube clip of self watching self. Like our collective attention has taken a step backwards to virtual self. Truth is that if you want to find anything 'real' it will not be on the internet. If it is then it gets commoditised, virtualised and plasticized.

The generation that grew up without the internet use it more as a tool. They remember not having it and so wield it with the power of someone who has the imagination to manifest whatever desire he/she may have. I type as if i were writing a letter and then ping it is sent. Children and now adults who grew up totally 'plugged in' are a function of the internet, they swim within it. Perhaps, one day they will be nostalgic for facebook. I am not saying it is right or wrong, just the way that it seems to me.

I keep my children sharp though. They know how to use computers and handheld games, but they occasionally get left outside (or not brought in) on rainy nights ;)

I love the way you speak....it is straight from.your heart and spirit and real and very easy to feel your thoughts and true strong feelings and yes it is very sadly true all what you say too...
