  • the labour party has proven itself to not be an alternative. They are all on the take, yet give fuck all, apart from waging war on anyone they deem fit, not to mention their extravagance for houses or porno movies for the ol man to watch, ffs an anything else they can think up to get a few more quid socialists, my F***ing a**e

WE are all on the take... You, me and every other fker in this soup. But this bollox is nonsense. Even the police have no balls or no insentive. At leased they get overtime. :D I can't remember a time when the government was so weak at a time of need in Europe or the world. This is our Counrty and I would like to take it back or hand it to some outfit to nurture.

  • what like become the 53 rd state, sharia law, mind you a fairer system of government would be a better idea , this is the computer age perhaps that could help but then again...

  • One of the main factors here:
    SCHOOL'S OUT
It allegedly all started when a copper whacked a kid with a baton at the tottenham vigil. The rest of this violence of course has nothing to do with tottenham though.

It's CHILDREN doing this. Have you seen them? They're utterly despondent, they have no future, a future used up by adults from the 80's and 00's.

It's all going to go Mad Max in their lifetime, they might as well get some practice in.

And still the governments have their head in the sand over the fact that our economy has no future. Another big crack appeared this month. A capitalist system based on consuming more and more every day is not sustainable. Those children, although not academically aware of it, feel it in their guts.

  • first of all, these are definitely not anarchists - while most of the shops in clapham got done - they left waterstones alone - totally untouched anarchists tend to be informed readers......

these are the face book riots - last night at about 11pm my son ( not H!!!) told me that he'd read that it was all kicking off on lodge lane/ smithdown road ( toxteth). I have a friend who was coming off shift at a hospital and lives in the granby triangle - so i rang her.....not a peep on the street. all quiet. by 1am the racket on upper parliament street was ridiculous . just on the corner of our street there were riot police and 8 matrix vans.

there was a fellow standing outside our house complete with hoodie, gloves and face mask - so i asked him if a) he was cold and b) would he kindly fuck off from the front of my house as he clearly didn't live here and if he wanted to cause trouble go and do it on his own front door not mine - i really started to badger him and eventually he buggered off.

    have a tune peeps

  • This is part of a wider social problem that can't simply be blamed on "thugs" or "the cuts". We have created a society of greed, and raised a generation who have no respect or consideration for others. I blame government, police, schools, parents... pretty much everyone. The whole of society is complicit in this.

Completely agree. The sooner we stop labelling and blaming everyone else, the sooner we can start dealing with the problem

  • A good friend said this about the riots - 'In Egypt when the youth started kicking off, everyone went out and joined them. The older people were able to reign in the youth'...

  • Anarchism is a political concept poorly understood and wrongly used in describing current events.
We are seeing the behaviour of a permanent structural underclass functioning in the only way it knows how, following decades of steady growth in numbers as a result of misguided neo-con ideology and the belief that all problems are self correcting.
If the left and all free thinking people don't make serious collective efforts to identify the problem for what it is, we will be providing the opportunity for social and political control by harsh repressive measures and we will only have ourselves to blame.

  • This whole issue of calling the hoodies Anarchists is, I think, a massive embarassment for all real anarchists of every level (I realise that is a total contradiction in terms). Can they label themself something else, please? Or, as the hoodies are almost certainly uneducatable, can all real Anarchists possibly change their name to something less catchy, like 'Maximum personal devolutionists' - or does that sound a bit too close to Transition Townism?:S Suggestions for alternative names for people who support non-violent personal responsibility and extreme localisation of authority? Or perhaps there are infinite sub-sections of political belief system that intrinsically defy clarification...

  • Who are these "real" anarchists? I've known plenty of "real" anarchists who believed in armed uprising and revolution.

Did they uprise and rebel against the local shops? At the very least, if these people on the street have any genuine political motivation, they are thinking small and misdirected.

Armed revolution always sounds like a good plan, but not once in the history of the world has it ever worked other than to displace one powerful authority with another

  • i felt like burning a newspaper stand just now. The mail calling them anarchists and another paper 'flaming morons'...these are our children for crying out loud :( do you think they will try and curfew hotspots later! X

  • Not my child....
If these are the children, where are the parents? "Mum, I'm just going out looting," - "Oh, okay, be back by 9 and bring home some milk on the way, won't you..."

  • Did they uprise and rebel against the local shops?

In the book I linked (a book very dear to many "real" anarchists), you'll notice that they kicked off at the local wine bar.

Point is, there's no dictionary definition of "real" anarchist. It's just a label that people choose to apply to themselves. I've know green anarchists, anarcho-syndicalists, individualist anarchists, anarcho-thugs.... lots of different people with lots of different views, all of whom choose to call themselves "anarchists". There is no "real anarchist", and no committee that gets to decide what an anarchist really is.

  • Basically, everythings fucked, it was always gonna happen, all the reasons have been stated here, what next? Run to the hills!!!!!! Find a nice quiet spot by a river, set up camp and never look back. Well thats my plan if the shit hits the fan any harder.

I think that's kind of the point! ;) I just think a lot of people who consider themselves anarchists or pseudo anarchists or whatever individualistic term is applied would like to distance themselves from the current acts. Just because you don't support the current system, it doesn't mean you support the rioters. A group called 'anarchists against riots' sounds wonderfully ironic :) I imagine they would have no lasting structure or formal members list or shared goals and priorities. Hmm, sounds like a typical political party then!

I think maybe the rich have already bought all the land there and the planning system will stop anyone else from crowding them too much. Though I must say, the only road going near me has two small bridges that could quite easily be blown to form a sort of moat preventing access if things ever go totally mad-max.;)

But seriously, there are how many MILLION people in London? And how many actual rioters? I think we needn't fear each other so much and forget the strength there is in numbers. This is why we need to make our own take on 'big society' actually mean something - if the Government won't take care of us, we can still take care of ourselves. Governments come and go, and the modern system is in constant flux. Humans have lived in groups forever. Police are only around 100 years old. Yet we survive. But if you set up camp on a river near me do feel free to ask for a cup of tea (and I'll be sure to warn you before we blow the bridges so you can get clear, if it comes to that!)
