  • I would love to know Cameron's real motives behind what he's said.
Maybe he's trying to get everyone thinking about something that isn't the failings of him and his cronies. And the banks.

Pretty much so. I thought DC's immigration speech was primarily aimed at liberal EU governments, drawing a line in the sand saying, "... this many and no more." Reasoned debate on immigration won't happen while politicians are scared silly about either being branded racist or using the I-word as a distraction technique for bad news elsewhere.

We should never have let the Saxons in and as for the Norman's ... how far do we go back? Immigration made this nation what it is, an empire forged from their sweated labour and now 'we' want to throw them away like a used tea bag. 'Thanks for driving the buses and keeping the hospitals staffed but you can go now.'

  • Cameron is getting Marine Le Pen all excited

    Quote

Marine Le Pen was elected to lead the National Front last month. She claimed the prime minister's speech on the failures of multiculturalism showed he was taking Britain's Conservatives towards her stance on the issue. "It is exactly this type of statement that has barred us from public life [in France] for 30 years," she told the Financial Times. "I sense an evolution at European level, even in classic governments. I can only congratulate him."

    Quote

Muslim and anti-fascist groups questioned the prime minister's judgment and sensitivity to the issues, saying he had handed a propaganda coup to the hard-right English Defence League as 3,000 of its supporters marched through Luton chanting anti-Islamic slogans.

  • Surely he must have known this would happen? If not he's an imbecile...

Well he's not an imbecile. He's pandering to the European right, testing the waters to see how far he can go before the LibDems grab their pitch forks and flaming torches and head off to the castle. What good it'll do Clegg, having nailed his colours to the wrong team, who will probably end up getting blamed (by us) when all goes wibbly-wobbly.

Its like watching a car crash in slow motion but unable to run fast enough to avert disaster.

  • National identity , I like the diversity we have in this country, to me we are like one big mixing pot full of lots of different people from all different types of life and cultures, which initself gives us an identity. Why do we need the state to interfere and tell us what identity we should conform to.

  • Why do we need the state to interfere and tell us what identity we should conform to.

All part of a cunning plan by the ConDems to opt out of the European Human Rights Convention - as in no votes for prisoners, willing the courts to sue the Gov' so Dave can let 'em know who's boss and save the country massive compensation claims. "The majority of British people don't want this (EU interference)," claimed DC recently.

Lest we forget what happened when Bush opted-out of the Geneva Convention just before the Gulf wars - waging illigal wars, water boarding, world wide arrests without trial in the biggest off-shore internment camp ever, demonising Muslims for American domestic muck ups, homeland security ... you name it. Now transfer that ethic to the EU/ConDems in the UK and watch where it leads us.

We may be about to live in interesting times.

He can get stuffed with this national identity bullshit. The fact that the makeup of the UK has always been of separate cultures makes the notion of a single national identity a nonsense. I think it's difficult enough to define what English national identity is never mind a manufactured British one. Tories, New Labour and their values go against my values and nothing is going to make me subscribe to some fantasy vision of what a UK citizen should be.

  • There's a guy I was introduced to recently - seems fairly intelligent, got a degree and runs a head shop (nobody's perfect)

OI, don't tar us all with the same brush:eek:
That could lead to some sweeping generalisations:whistle:

  • Hmmmm -encourage mass immigration from muslim countries for decades then start turning against them labelling them all as potential terrorists and perhaps even imply they are to blame for lack of jobs and other economic probs - cant see that causing any problems!!!!!

Great points; and all of which can explain why state multiculturalism has failed.
